This week has been dragging but alas it's Friday! I get to be an adult this weekeend and fix stuff in my newly purchased home. Yup, I'm getting old and responsible. I have the perfect song for that...

Let's count the rings around my eyes
So, it's Thursday. It's warm and it is windy. It's not Friday. I'm bored.
Anyway, here are the Replacements with I Will Dare off of their seminal album Let it Be.

What are they saying in the public bazaar?
I'm sorry for not posting anything this week. My wife and I closed on a house Monday and yesterday was spent playing catch up at work. I'm sorry to neglect you all! All is well in the world. I have a house, a job, a loving wife and a beautiful cat. Oh, and the weather is great! Could someone ask for more? I doubt it.

Will U accept my tears 2 pay the fare?
To be honest, I'm still grooving on this Talking Heads song from Friday. I'm waiting on some news and that's the only thing I can think about! BUT, I don't want to let anyone down, here's today's song.

We're goin' boom, boom, boom and that's the way we live
Today can be a good day if you want it to be. This could be a great weekend if you want it to be. I will help with an amzing song that was never released on a talking Heads album but only performed live for the concert film Stop Making Sense. What a Day That Was was actually written by David Byrne and appeared on his score for the Twyla Tharp dance piece, The Catherine Wheel.

Have another sweet my dear
I think it's the time of year where I break out the Sparks albums! The sun is out, the air is crisp and it's warm! I've been looking online to find a version of their song Barbecutie because it would be perfect for today but alas I cannot find one! So instead let's enjoy the Mael Brothers (the two main guys in the band are bro's) at their peak in 1974 live on the German Show Musikladen. If you haven't heard them, prepare to be amazed!
Sparks playing their song B.C.
the song that got me into Sparks back in high school - This Town Aint Big Enough for the Both of Us
Something for the Girl With Everything...another doozy of a song! These guys were just churning out amazing songs around this time!
Finally let's slow the pace with an absolutely beautiful version of their song; Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth

My eyes are black holes and I'm burning away
It's Tuesday and if you're like me you are stuck at work. I'll be behind this desk physically but my mind is on the highway. I'm traveling the desolate and cold roads of America. No human contact, only dust. I'm running away from the troubled miles I've travelled. I'm a Ghost on the Highway.
Would you like to join me? Then listen to Ghost on the Highway by the great Gun Club.

I received your message in full a few days ago
It's a good day. It's Monday but you know what, it's still a good day. Let's start this week with New Order. Their song Age of Consent is the type of song that is very upbeat but I get emotional every time I listen to it. Just some great songwriting I suppose. Enjoy!

I can't decide!
I've been struggling to find the right song today. I must have decided on 4 or 5different songs and continued to move on to another. I think I'm sold on 10th Avenue Freeze Out by the Boss. But I still feel like I should go back to something I had decided on earlier. How about this, we'll start with Springsteen and then I'll take you through the songs I also had in mind. Leave a comment and let me know which song you think is appropriate.
So I was also thinking that it could be a chill, relaxing weekend and that could be ushered in by the man, Willie Nelson.
Another song I wanted to post was a upbeat tune called Lonely Weekends by Charlie Rich. Great song with Elvis-like vocals but the lyrics were kind of a drag. Either way the vibe is right and he does mention the weekend.
Ray Charles playing a Johnny Cash song, that's all I needed to hear. But again, I wasn't so sure the laid back soul sound of this one was right for today. Any way you slice it, this is a great performance!
Let me know which one you chose to be your song of the day. Oh, and have a great weekend!

And an overzealous hand
Let's go dancing in the streets today. No? Okay, let's watch people dancing in the streets. Either way, it feels like that kind of day.
Jarvis Cocker previously of Pulp performing in the streets his song, Angela from his most recent album produced by Steve Albini...who is a genius. Have a good day!

There's definitely something going on upstairs
Nick Cave's 15 Feet of Pure White Snow was a good choice today but the only good version I could find had the embedding disabled! This is a new trend I've been running into and it's pissing me off! So we won't be listening to that one today. I'll just give you another Nick Cave song. Dig, Lazarus, Dig!, the titular song from his most recent song is Mr. Cave still writing great songs but now with a moustache!

I want to help you with your problem
A lot of people think McCartney's solo career stunk (for the most part). Well, it didn't! Coming Up is off his second solo album and it's not what you would expect from Paul. A little bit funky with a disco tinge, this song is certainly a product of the late seventies/early eighties but its good. It's not dated like most songs of this genre. Enjoy this perfect feel good- spring song.
These photos are from the accompanying video for this song which I can't post because the YouTube users have "disabled embedding". Here's the link if you're interested:

Touche'
My friend Wes just pointed out that I made a grave mistake on my last post. I forgot to put up the infamous version of Ice Cream Man. So please enjoy and thank you Wesman.
ha! I love his little laugh every time he kicks back into the song!

Share the modern world with me
No one can be in a bad mood when they're listening to Jonathan Richman. So today that's what we're listening too! He was the founding member of the Modern Lovers. Arguably a band that helped to create punk music. They started making music in the 70's and Jonathan still records and tours solo nowadays. This is a guy that does not take himself seriously and his music shines because of that. His goofy and simplistic songs are sincere and fun. Let's start with something from the Modern Lovers first album. This one's called Modern World
This next one, Everday Clothes is a good song but it's a great example of how he can make you smile.
The Neighbors is off of his album 'Jonathan Goes Country' which has an amazing album cover! ...Just a good song.
This one is called Lydia and it was realeased by Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers; which was a new version of the band. They're not as a raw and maybe a bit more silly but still great music nonetheless.
and I saved one of my personal favorites for last. Let Her Go into the Darkness is a great song with fun lyrics and cool music. The Farrelly Brothers used this song in "There's Something about Mary" so it may sound familiar. Here's a great live performance from the Conan show in the early/mid 90's.

The 5th Beatle Part II (...will be here tomorrow)
It's not a 5th Beatley day/night. Today - let's just talk about the English Beat. They eventually became the Fine Young Cannibals but man, they were great as the Beat! Take a listen for yourself...
and a personal favorite - Mirror in the Bathroom:
UPDATE - for better quality audio on Save It for Later watch this video...well don't watch it because it's a stagnant image of the band but enjoy the music.
